Careers in Renewable Energy

Good Energy Minds participated in the Careers for Net Zero QLD Roadshow in Jagera and Giabal Country (Toowoomba), Gooreng Gooreng and Gurang Country (Gladstone) and Wulgurukaba and Bindal Country (Townsville) as a Session Partner.  In each location the Good Energy Minds Team of Troy Pickwick and Dr Chivonne Algeo hosted a Yarning Circle next to their stand and gave a presentation on their experiences working with Indigenous communities.  The Roadshow was hosted by the Clean Energy Council (CEC) and supported by the Queensland Government and the Energy Efficiency Council to provide students, graduates, career changers and job seekers of all ages, particularly in regional Queensland, the latest information about clean economy careers.

What we Delivered

Good Energy Minds worked with the CEC to:

  • Deliver a presentation in each location, titled “An Insight Only” introducing transformational prospects and opportunities through an Indigenous lens in the transition to net zero.
  • Engaged representative Elders to welcome delegates on-Country in each location.
  • Hosted a Yarning Circle at each location to exchange knowledge between Indigenous and non-Indigenous delegates, speakers and guests in a culturally safe environment.

The Outcome

The Good Energy Minds team engaged representative Elders who actively engaged throughout the day in each location, fostering discussions with sponsors, government representatives, exhibitors and delegates.  The Good Energy Minds stand and Yarning Circle provided a safe space for all delegates to discuss the transition to net zero for their community and the nation.

Our Role

We curated the Welcome and Acknowledgement to Country in each Roadshow location, providing an opportunity for Indigenous representation and engagement in the discussions on renewable opportunities in regional Queensland.  Our presentation focused on the “Leading Practice Principles for First Nations and Renewable Energy Projects”, culminating with delegates and exhibitors joining our Yarning Circle to participate in open discussions with Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.
